Strengthening Your Morality

INTRODUCTION.

A.        In our previous lesson, we examined three ways in which the devil attacks our morality.

B.        Knowing that there are opposing forces to the standard of morality established by God, it is necessary that every Christian strengthens his morality. We must build up our morality, grounding it in the word of God.

C.        With this lesson, we will show why we are to strengthen our morality and how we are to strengthen our morality.

I.         REASONS TO STRENGTHEN OUR MORALITY.

            A.        Christians are to “come out and be separate.” (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)

            B.        Christians are God’s own special people. (1 Peter 2:9-10; Titus 2:12-14)

            C.        Christians are translated into the kingdom of His dear Son. (Colossians 1:12-14)

II.       HOW ARE WE TO STRENGTHEN OUR MORALITY?

            A.        Develop a love for the Lord.

                        1.         Jesus said that if we love Him, then we will keep His commandments. (John 14:15)

                        2.         We are to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. (Mark 12:29-31)

            B.        Develop a working knowledge of what is right and what is wrong.

                        1.         Israel was destroyed for a lack of knowledge. (Hosea 4:6)

                        2.         Let us study daily God’s word. (2 Timothy 2:15)

                                    a.         It is sharper than any two-edged sword. (Hebrews 4:11-13)

                                    b.         The Lord has given us everything we need to equip us to serve Him. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

            C.        Do a self-examination using the Truth as our guide.

                        1.         Examine oneself. (2 Corinthians 13:5-6)

                        2.         Examine or prove one’s own works or obedience. (Galatians 6:3-5)

                        3.         Do not be a forgetful hearer. (James 1:21-25)

            D.        Make the necessary changes.

                        1.         Recognize what we need to put off or put away from our lives. (Ephesians 4:21-32)

                        2.         Again, we are to put off and put on. (Colossians 3:8-17)
