God Cannot Lie
INTRODUCTION.
A. Let’s face it, there are some people you can trust and some you cannot trust.
1. There are people within your life who would not intentionally lead you astray. They will always tell you the truth. You can count on every word they say to be as accurate as possible.
2. Then there are those people who, experience has taught you, may tell you a lie. It may be a direct lie or a misleading statement. In either case, you exercise extreme caution in believing what they say.
3. The truthful people provide you with a measure of peace. Whereas the liars and dishonest people leave you wandering about the validity or truthfulness of their statements.
B. Thankfully, God belongs in the first category. He cannot lie. Consider the following Bible passages which state this truth about God.
1. Number 23:19 - “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (NKJV)
2. 1 Samuel 15:29 - “And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent.” (NKJV)
3. 2 Timothy 2:13 - “If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.” (NKJV)
4. Titus 1:1-3 - “Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;” (NKJV)
5. Hebrews 6:18 - “that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.” (NKJV)
C. With this lesson, we will show examples of God being true to His word and then examples of promises that we must recognize to be true today.
I. EXAMPLES OF GOD BEING FAITHFUL TO HIS WORD.
A. God told Noah of the flood. (Genesis 6:5-8, 13-17; 7:11-12, 17-24)
B. God told Abraham that He would destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. (Genesis 18:20-21; 19:12-14, 23-29)
C. God told Abraham and Sarah that they would have a baby boy. (Genesis 18:9-15; 21:1-7)
D. God told Joshua that He would give Joshua victory against the kings of the Amorites. (Joshua 10:5-15)
E. There are many other examples we could show proving that God has always been faithful to His word.
II. WE CAN TRUST THE WORD OF GOD.
A. Jesus said:
1. If you believe in Him, then you will have eternal life. (John 3:16)
2. If you believe and are baptized, then you will be saved. (Mark 16:15-16)
3. If you do not believe, then you will perish. (Mark 16:15-16; John 8:24)
4. Unless you repent of your sins, you will perish. (Luke 13:3)
B. God, through the inspired writers, promised eternal life.
1. Titus 1:2 - God promised eternal life before time began.
2. Hebrews 6:13-20 - We have hope as heirs of the promise of God.
3. 1 John 5:11-13 - God has given us eternal life, through Jesus Christ.
C. God, through the inspired writers, told us that we will reap what we sow. (Galatians 6:7-8)
D. God, through the inspired writers, told us who will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)
E. God, through the inspired writers, said that vengeance will fall upon those who willfully reject. (Hebrews 10:26-31)
F. God, through the inspired writers, said that the Lord would return.
1. As a promise of punishment the wicked. (2 Thessalonians 1:7-10)
2. As a warning to the saints. (1 Thessalonians 5:1-11)
3. To comfort the saints. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
CONCLUSION.
A. The simple truth is that God does not lie.
B. With this truth in mind, consider Hebrews 2:1-4.
1. Every transgression and disobedience received a just reward.
2. We will shall not escape if we neglect the salvation of the Lord.
C. If you are not a Christian, then believe the Lord and every word He has spoken. Become one of His followers by obeying His words.
1. Believe in Jesus Christ. (John 3:16; 8:24; Mark 16:16)
2. Repent of your sins. (Luke 13:3; Acts 2:38)
3. Confess your belief in Jesus. (Rom 10:9-10)
4. Be baptized in to Christ. (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38; Gal 3:26-27; 1 Peter 3:21)
D. If you are a Christian, but you are not faithfully following the Lord, then believe Him and heed His admonition to change.
